The device of Manenc gives, theoretically, by double focusing a sharp image of a point source. The geometrical aberrations of this system are calculated and the results explain satisfactorily why faint streaks are often observed around the image. In order to reduce the disadvantages of these side effects, one must use a microsource if the sample is a big crystal, but for small crystals a semi-microsource is convenient.
