6-Hydroxy-5,7-dimethoxy-4-methylcoumarin

The synthesis and structure of the title compound, C₁₂H₁₂O₅, are described. The molecule is approximately flat with the exception of the 5-methoxy group which is twisted at 70.1 (3)° with respect to the aromatic ring. The molecules pack together with intermolecular hydrogen bonding between the O4 and O2(x, y, z - 1) atoms.
