Tetrahydrogen 1,2-Bis(1,4,7-triaza-1-cyclononyl)ethane Tetrachlorocadmate

The title salt, C₁₄H₃₆N₆⁴⁺.2CdCl₄^2- [1,2-bis(1-aza-4,7-diazonia-1-cyclononyl)ethane tetrachlorocadmate], has been structurally characterized. Hydrogen bonds are formed from protons of the secondary amine N atoms to the CdCl₄^2- anions and the tertiary amine N atoms. This suggests that the secondary amines of the tetraprotonated cation are protonated in the crystal as they appear to be in aqueous solution.
