A Photoproduct Derived from 9-Benzyl-Substituted Dibenzobarrelene

Photolysis of 11,12-dibenzoyl-9-benzyl-9,10-ethenoanthracene in the absence of oxygen, gives 9a,10-dibenzoyl-9-benzylidene-4b,9,9a-10-tetrahydroindeno[1,2a]indene, C₃₇H₂₆O₂, (3). The structure of (3) has been unambiguously established through X-ray crystallographic analysis.
