The title compounds, C₁₃H₁₀N₂O₃ and C₁₄H₁₁FN₂O₃, were prepared by acid degradation of the 1,4-benzodiazepine drugs nitrazepam and flunitrazepam, respectively. The structure of 2-amino-5-nitrobenzophenone reported here is a polymorphic form of a known structure.
